Posting adjustment records exist from previous failed posting attempt. Delete adjustment records and repost

Getting this message when trying to post a GL JE.  The entry was to reverse an entry that was previosly posted.  The users say they were trying 'manually invert it'.

What does this message mean, and how to I correct the root cause?
