Stock Breakdown and / or stock consolidation
Is there a way to achieve something like the following, I am fairly certain that there isn’t but it only takes a minute or two to ask:
Example:
Item A (this is not a BOM) = is a drum of oil, 205 litres worth, with 1 drum in stock. This is the ‘source’ item number with a stock holding cost of say 190.00
Item B (this is not a BOM) = An item number that represents oil that is sold in 1 litre bottles, no stock on hand, this is the ‘target’ item number.
In this example, it is difficult to sell item A, so we therefore have a requirement to break this down into more manageable quantities, this being Item B.
Someone would empty the drum (item a) into 1 litre bottles (item b)
So …
We have a source item (Item A) with a cost of 190.00 and we managed to fill 200 litre bottles (even though the drum holds 205 litres, spillage etc)
The journal would need to reduce item A by -1, work out the cost of item B (190.00 / 200 = 0.95), increase item B by + 200 @ 0.95 each, and post accordingly.
I appreciate that all this can be worked out manually, with a calculator etc, but it would be good to have this process automated, any thoughts?
Stock consolidation is the reverse of the above.
