NAV 2013 Change Item's Variant

Hi,

I have a bunch of items in our system that currently have no variant assigned and I would like to change them to have an assigned variant. I would have expected the Item Reclass. Journal to be able to handle this (and in fact the help documents do suggest that it would (see here, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh173224(v=nav.70).aspx , where one of the "To" items in that table is: "Change item attributes, such as serial/lot numbers and variant codes.")). But as far as I can see there is no way to do it. To complicate matters further, several of the items I would like to reclassify are also lot and serial number tracked.

The only way I can see to do this is to do a regular item journal to remove the existing items from inventory (with a negative adjustment) and then do another positive adjustment to add them back in. The major problem with this is that because these items are lot and serial number tracked I need to first go in and select all of the items on the Item Tracking Lines and then on the positive adjustment go in and re-assign the lot and serial numbers. This will be a HUGE pain to do. I figure there HAS to be a better way to do this where I can simply change the variant code without having to re-do all of the lot/serial number information.

Why is there no "New Variant" column on the Item Reclass. Journal? It seems only natural that it would exist along with the "New Lot" and "New Serial" columns.

Cheers,

Devin
